1932 Hack Wilson avenges an April humiliation as he clouts a 1st-inning grand slam off Chicago’s Pat Malone to lead the Dodgers to a 5 – 2 win. Hack also drives home the 5th run. Weeks earlier in Chicago‚ the Cubs walked a man to load the bases for Wilson‚ who then grounded into a double play.

Leo Durocher, fired by the Cubs after 90 games, replaces Harry Walker as manager of the Astros. It is only the second time someone has managed two National League teams in the same season. The first was in 1948, when Durocher himself piloted the Brooklyn Dodgers and then their arch-rivals, the New York Giants.
