Aurelio Rodriguez of the Tigers becomes the first AL third baseman since 1959 to beat out the Orioles’ Brooks Robinson for the Gold Glove Award. Other newcomers on The Sporting News fielding team include third baseman Mike Schmidt, outfielder Dwight Evans, and catcher Jim Sundberg. That trio will combine to win 24 Gold Gloves.
Brooks Robinson ties a World Series record by reaching base five straight times on three hits and two walks as Baltimore rolls over the Pittsburgh Pirates, 11-3. The defending World Champion Orioles hold a 2-0 Series advantage.
