A happy birthday (born in 1955) to Dewey LaMarr Hoyt, Jr. With the Chicago White Sox the bearded right-hander won the 1983 American League Cy Young Award. In only his second season as a starting pitcher, he threw to a 24-10 won-lost record, 3.66 earned run average and walked only 31 batters in 260.2 innings! His efforts were a big part of seeing the White Sox capture the American League West title.
