In his 13th year as a manager in MLB, Dick Williams wins his 1,000th career game, leading the Montreal Expos in a victory over the New York Mets. The Montreal club is his fourth big league managerial assignment, as he had previously led the Red Sox (winning the ’67 pennant), the Athletics (with back to back World Championships in ’72-’73), and the Angels. His accomplishments as a manager will put him in the Baseball Hall of Fame (class of 2008).
